In 1872, due to the rise of the Czech Pilsner style, the Bavarian wheat beer (hefeweizen) was facing extinction. Enter Georg Schneider I who purchased the exclusive royal brewing rights to hefeweizen from Ludwig II, King of Bavaria, and set up shop in downtown Munich.

143 years and six Georgs later, we’re sure glad he did!
